SPRING VALLEY, Minnesota (STPNS) -- People hoping to "catch" the holiday spirit should have no problem if they plan on attending Christmas on Historic Broadway this Saturday, Dec. 15, in Spring Valley. There will be plenty of activities to enlighten the grouchiest Grinch.

This is the second year the Brave Community Theatre and Spring Valley Chamber have presented the event held on Broadway. If the light parade, Supper with Santa at the community center, the ALS fund-raiser Christmas bake sale and carolers roaming around don't get you in the holiday spirit, try the gift of giving.

The Hearts & Hands Alliance will be holding a toy drive in conjunction with this event in order to give the children in the flood-stricken Rushford area a merry Christmas. Anyone wishing to donate is asked to give a gift-wrapped new toy and to mark on the outside of the box whether the toy is for a boy or a girl and what age range. The group will have a float in the light parade, where the gift may be dropped off in the box during the parade route or brought to the community center.

There will also be local businesses that will be holding holiday open houses during Christmas on Historic Broadway throughout the city.

The activities begin at 1 p.m. at the Spring Valley Historical Society where Mark Reps will be signing copies of his newly released "Hometown Tales, Vol. 2." Reps will also be available at Friends Center for the Arts for another book signing at 4 p.m. Also, starting at 1 p.m. is the historical society's house tour featuring Mark and Julie Mlinar's home and the Washburn/Zittleman home.

Taking place at Friends Center for the Arts at 4 p.m. is the Brave Community Theatre's play "Keeping Christmas." Later at 7 p.m. it will be time for visitors to take "A musical walk down Christmas lane" with Novella Meisner, Pete Stier and Maggie Doherty performing a collection of holiday songs. Tickets are $7 at the door and advance tickets, available at Don's Family Market, are $6.

There is something for everyone. In case of inclement weather, Christmas on Historic Broadway will be held Sunday, Dec. 16, and will have the exact same schedule as is planned on Saturday, Dec. 15.
