Tigers close out perfect season, clinch 3 1A title
LEXINGTON, Mississippi (STPNS) -- The Durant Tigers wrapped up their regular season play with a 11-0 record after their 40-10 victory over South Leake Friday, November 8. The Tigers will host Bogue Chitto in the first game of the Region 3 1A playoffs this Friday night, November 14 at 7:00. The perfect record gives the Tigers their first region championship since 2001. Head Coach Ashley Kuhn said Durant has outscored their opponents 417 to 87. The Tigers' offense was led by quarterback Willie Davis who passed for 1100 yards and 14 TDs. On the receiving end, running back Cortez led the offense with 1000 yards, including 17 TDs rushing. Filling out the Tiger offense were: wide receiver Robert Thomas with 20 receptions for 450 yards and 10 TDs and fullback David Hogsett who rushed for 300 yards and 9 TDs. Rounding out the offense were running back Chris Ambrose with 360 yards rushing and Deundre Williams with 16 receptions. The Tiger defense was led by senior linebacker Johnathan Frizell with 105 tackles and 9.5 tackles and Deontra Common with 88 tackles. Defensive back Deundre Williams had 4 interceptions. Coach Kuhn was assisted by Defensive Coordinator Jeremiah Brassell, Assistant Coach Steven Autry, Assistant Coach Greg Plump, Assistant, and Coach Antonio Latiker.
