EWEB okays 1.9% rate raise
MCKENZIE BRIDGE, Oregon (STPNS) -- EUGENE: Eugene Water & Electric Board commissioners last Tuesday night approved to increase electric and water rates. The utility supplies power to homes in Vida, Leaburg and Walterville, as well as the metro area. The board unanimously approv-ed an overall 1.9 percent increase in electric rates. In addition, metro area customers will see a 7.3 percent overall increase in water rates. For the average EWEB residential customer, the 2.5 percent electric rate increase will amount to an additional $1.96 per month. “The rate increase will position EWEB to address financial issues such as completing capital projects that include the new Roosevelt Operations Center in west Eugene and relicensing the Carmen-Smith hydroelectric project, as well as acquiring new generating facilities and power contracts,” according to Joe Harwood, a utility spokesman. The rate increases will go into effect on May 1st, and will be reflected on May billing statements.
