Heavy snow provides early start for ski areas
MCKENZIE BRIDGE, Oregon (STPNS) -- With recent storms dumping snow in the mountains and more on the way, most Oregon ski areas will be open by Thanksgiving. For many, this is the earliest opening in 15 years. “Oregon’s ski resorts are off to an amazing start,” said Karen Siegle of Ski Oregon. “Heavy early-season snow and cold temperatures have allowed Oregon’s resorts to not only open early, but to boast some of the deepest base depths in the country.” Hoodoo is projecting 90 percent of their runs will be available for their Friday, November 27th, opening. On Tuesday morning, the resort reported a solid base of 40 inches that has been packed down by groomers working through this week’s sunny spells.
